 Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand's former PrimeMinister Yingluck Shinawatra has not obtained a UK passport, Thai ForeignMinister Don Pramudwinai said on December 4.

His announcement followedearlier news reports that Yingluck was given a UK passport after she hadreportedly sought political asylum in the UK.

Don said the UK Embassyin Bangkok has not filed any report about Yingluck to the Thai Ministry ofForeign Affairs.

Thai media earlierreported that Yingluck was seeking political asylum in the UK after she hadsecretly left Thailand for the United Arab Emirates in August.

On September 27, the Supreme Court of Thailand delivered a final verdict andsentenced Yingluck to a five-year jail term on duty negligence and misconductcharges pertaining to a rice programme which had been implemented by her PueaThai Party-led government and reportedly incurred about 14  billion USD in state losses several years ago.-VNA
