Bangkok (VNA)🦋 – Thailand’s military leaders held an unscheduled meeting with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on August 8, following the referendum on the new draft constitution the previous day.
A government official said army, navy and air force chiefs met with the PM for about an hour.
What was discussed has yet to be announced but the referendum results are thought to have been on the table.
Initial information from the Election Commission of Thailand showed that 61.45 percent voted in favour of the constitution while 38.55 voted against.
The official outcome will be announced in the next three days.
The Thai premier said that the government will follow the roadmap designed by the National Council for Peace and Order so that the next general election will be held in 2017.
Laws under the new constitution pertaining to elections will be made by the Constitution Drafting Committee within four months following the August 7 referendum, the second of its kind in Thailand .
