Bangkok (VNA) – Th🌌ailand’s Minister of Public Security Piyasakol Sakolsathayathorn♎ has assured that the spread of the Zika virus in the country is not as severe as characterised by a report released by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC).

He made the remarks during the recent sixth meeting of the National Communicable Disease Commission.
The Zika virus is common to Thailand and can be found annually in several patients, he said, urging citizens not to panic as the Department of Disease Control (DDC) kept the situation under control.
Responding to the ECDPC’s report, the minister said infections of Zika have only been found in Chantaburi, Petchabun, Bueng Kan and Chiang Mai with most patients already past a 28-day monitoring period and a general warning already lifed. The ministry has affirmed that Thailand has, to date, reported no deaths caused by the Zika virus and no cases of microcephaly in newborns.-VNA
