Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand’s PrimeMinister Prayut Chan-o-cha has affirmed that therecently-ratified cyber security law would not be used to tap phone calls.
The leader told investors in Bangkok on March 14 that cyber security should notbe confused with human rights.
The law is meant to strengthen online business security, he said, addingthat no one will tap phone calls of others.
It's about the protection of businesses because there could be huge fraud orillegal businesses, he said.
The bill, which was passed by the Thai National Assembly onFebruary 28, allows authorities to seize any computers or devices withouta court warrant if there are critical threats to cyber security.
After it wasapproved in principle by the cabinet in 2015, the bill was revised and presented to get public feedbackin March 2018.
The bill again underwent a public hearing from September 27 till October 10,2018 after it was amended by the legislature.
The new law is scheduled to officially come into force in May.-VNA
