Thai PM opens “Thai Silk Road to the World” event

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) – Thai Prime MinisterGen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has presided over the opening ceremony of the "8thCelebration of Silk, Thai Silk Road to the World", an event held to raisethe value of Thai silk products in international markets. 

The event took place on December 2 at Centara Grand &Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld in Bangkok. 

It was held in honour of Queen Sirikit for hercontributions to the conservation and research for further development of Thaitextiles to gain world-class recognition. 

This year's event marked the first upgrade of its scale, asorganisers have sent Thai silk to designers around the world to create theirfashion costumes out of Thai silk. It featured fashion design showcases from 48countries. 

The PM said Thai silk is a well-known national heritage whichrequires skills and great attention to details. Queen Sirikit has graciouslypaid her interest to this heritage, which is related to the livelihood, art,culture, and local wisdom of Thai people, creating more jobs which helpedvillagers and local communities earn more income. 

The opening ceremony was followed by a fashion show by aMalaysian designer Jimmy Choo, who has given a pair of No.7 shoes made withThai silk to the representative of the Queen, in order to put the shoes onexhibition at Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles located inside the Grand Palacein Bangkok.-NNT/VNA
