Bangkok (VNA) - The Parliament of Thailand on July 25 began a two-day meeting, duringwhich Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered a policy statement of the new Government.
Opposition parliamentarians quickly told him to read it out word by word, as regulationrequires, and not deliver it in a debate style.
According to local media, Prayut said the government would ensure income forfarmers, as well as take appropriate measures to stabilise prices ofagricultural products.
He affirmed that the government will continue to maintain a high-standardfinancial discipline, promote tax reforms to expand tax calculation basis andincrease efficiency of the tax collection system.
In the ensuing debate, opposition parliaments criticised policies of theGovernment, saying that Prayut's Government only offered an outline withoutrevealing enough details to the Parliament members.
Informationpublished in local media before the meeting said Prayut's policy statement aimsto make Thailand a developed country through 12 urgent policies and 12long-term ones, focusing on the East Economic Corridor (EEC) project.
He also pledged to develop the country to move out of the middle-income trap during his tenure.
Thailand's new cabinet, consisting of 39 seats with 36 members, took their oathon July 16. Under the Thai Constitution, within 15 days of taking office, thegovernment will have to present its policy statement to the Parliament,orienting the country's development in the next four years.-VNA
