Bangkok (VNA) - The Royal Thai Police (RTP)will deploy over 90,000 officers to ensure the elections slated for May 14 are safe.

RTP spokesman Pol Lt Gen Archayon Kraithong said theforce will also open an election safety centre on April 20, adding that thenational police chief had appointed deputy national police chief Pol Gen RoyIngkapairoj as the head of the new centre which will run untilMay 17.

The centre will educate police who are safeguardingthe public and tackling crime during the election. It will also coordinate withother agencies.

According to Pol Lt Gen Archayon, police must remain neutral when actingin an official capacity and focus on safeguarding the public.

The Thai cabinet has approved a budget of 5.95 billion THB (174.5 million USD) to hold the elections./.
