Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Thai Government and Australian states havesigned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on anti-human trafficking, in a bidto curb the international scourge.
The move is part of the ASEAN-Australia Counter-Trafficking agreement. The MoUwas signed by Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Director-General of the ThailandInternational Cooperation Agency, and Paul Robilliard, Australian Ambassador toThailand. The signing was witnessed by Deputy Foreign Minister VirasakdiFutrakul.
The ASEAN-Australia Counter-Trafficking agreement is a 10-year commitment amongmember nations namely Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, thePhilippines, Vietnam, and Australia. The pact was designed to discourage andeliminate human trafficking at international and regional levels whilestrengthening law enforcement and the justice system in suppressing the issue.The agreement empowers concerned authorities to investigate and prosecute thewrongdoers. – NNT/VNA
