Thailand’s consumer confidence index increased for the second consecutive month in September, thanks to brighter economic prospects as exports and tourism continue to grow, according to a recent survey.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s consumer confidence index increasedfor the second consecutive month in September, thanks to brighter economicprospects as exports and tourism continue to grow, according to a surveyreleased by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce on October 5.
The index rose from 74.5 points in August to 75 points inSeptember, the report said.
Consumers also felt that Government spending will increaselater this year and the political situation will become more stable in thefuture.
The report noted that consumers might be more confidentin spending in the fourth quarter, but low commodity prices remain a concern.
Last week, the Bank of Thailand raised its 2017 economicgrowth forecast to 3.8 percent from 3.5 percent, with exports rising 8 percent.
In 2016, the region’s economy expanded 3.2 percent, slowerthan regional peers.-VNA
