Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - The Ministry of a Digital Economy and Societyis encouraging safe online media use and discretion, before sharing with thecountry’s youth the Stop Fake News seminar, promoting online media literacywith a LINE partnership.
Minister of Digital Economy and Society Puttipong Punnakanta presided over theopening ceremony of the Stop Fake News seminar aimed at promoting online medialiteracy and discretion before sharing with Thai youth to prevent the spread ofmisinformation.
The seminar was organised by social media platform LINE Thailand, withcommunication arts and journalism students participating. LINE Thailand CEOPhichet Rerkpreecha said today the company has been cooperating with theMinistry of a Digital Economy and Society to set up an anti- Fake News Centreoperating to prevent the spread of fake news. The platform, popular for itsmessaging service, will offer a group in which users share and verify onlinestories in the future.
The ministry’s Fake News Centre is being set up by a team working to verify thecorrectness and accuracy of information, using specific technologies in keepingwith international standards, which are beneficial to the general public. LINEwill be visiting the center to follow up on its establishment and operations.
Mr Phichet said that LINE currently has 44 million users, while its LINE TODAYnews service now has more than 1 trillion participants in readership per month.He said the seminar today marks a good start to creating an understanding amongthe news audience and their ability to discern fake news and misinformation.The seminar was held in Bangkok today, and will also be held in Khon Kaen atKhon Kaen International Convention and Exhibition Center, where some 400communication arts and journalism students and teachers will be participating./.
