Bangkok (VNA) – The Government of Th🍸ailand has decided to lay out a 20-year strategy for rice to improve the country’s paddy management.
The strategy will be implemented from 2017 in order to resolve all farming and marketing problems.
During a meeting with the rice management and policy committee on February 24, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said the 20-year strategy will cover the management of rice, from plantations to management, production and selling process.
A budget of some 10.08 billion BHT (282.5 million USD) has been proposed for the strategy implementation, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce.
Rice production will be capped at 26 million tonnes this year to prevent oversupply. The yield was 31.2 million tonnes in 2015.
In 2016, Thailand targets an export of 9.5 million tonnes of rice.-VNA
