Thailand: election activities to be monitored online

Thailand's Election Commission (EC) has joined forces with the country's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) to set up an "e-war room" to monitor upcoming election campaign activities online.

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand's Election Commission (EC) has joined forces with the country's Ministry of Digital Economyand Society (DES) to set up an "e-war room" to monitor upcomingelection campaign activities online.

EC secretary-general Sawaeng Boonmee said on April3 that this joint effort was aimed at preventing and controlling any illegalonline campaigns while also analysing the trend of those actions.

Any illegal action detected by the war room, including voteselling and power abuse, will lead to that content's termination and legalaction against the poster, Sawaeng added.

Separately, EC representative Thitiset Nutchanard said theresults of the Bangkok MP candidate registration were satisfactory.

To prevent any of the errors detected during the2019 election from reoccurring, Thitiset said that the EC had set up teams ofobservers to inspect registration venues nationwide.

Afterthe general election scheduled for May 14, newly elected members of the Houseof Representatives will join senators to elect a new prime minister from thelist of candidates nominated by the parties. Thenew prime minister will need more than half of the votes (376) tallied fromboth chambers./.
