Thailand extends emergency state in three southern provinces for three months

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on September 16 announced that the state of emergency will be extended in three southern provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani for another three months.
Bangkok (VNA) – Thai Prime Minister PrayutChan-o-cha on September 16 announced that the state of emergency will beextended in three southern provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani foranother three months.

The PM said that he signed the approval of the decree whichwas published by the Royal Gazette on its website.

The extension announcement was signed by himself on September11 under the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in an EmergencySituation,and has been approved by the Cabinet.

The areas under emergency include all districts in the threeprovinces except Srisakhon, Su-NgaiKolok and Sukirin in Narathiwat, Betong inYala and Maikaen and Maelan in Pattani.

The announcement said the extension would enable officialsto track down and arrest insurgents who aim to undermine national securitythrough violence and terror actions, as well as ensure the safety of people inthe areas.

The leader also said that all security units in the threeprovinces must build up public confidence by conducting a thorough assessmentof the situation, taking the offensive in intelligence operations and ensuringjustice in law enforcement.
