The Thai Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC) has planned to push Thailand forward as an educational hub for those who want to become a chef, Secretary General Adinan Pakbara revealed after his visit to observe vocational education in New Zealand.
He said that private vocational education in New Zealand mainly emphasised on Home Economics curriculums, especially international culinary studies.
Students enrolling in such courses are required to spend 70 percent or most of their time at schools in practical skills and the rest for theoretical part. Graduates in the courses are eligible to work worldwide as chefs and gain considerably high income.
“The OPEC sees a great opportunity to use the New Zealand model in Thailand’s international vocational colleges. We may join hands with private Thai schools and seek further cooperation with culinary colleges in New Zealand.”, said Adinan.
He added that with the cooperation, Thailand could become ASEAN Hub for international culinary learning.-VNA
