Bangkok (VNA)꧋ – Thailand held elections on June 9 for the new-term Senate, with the first round taking place at the district level nationwide.
According to the Election Commission (EC) of Thailand, 48,117 candidates registered for the elections, 46,715 of them met the eligibility criteria. They come from 20 different professional fields such as law, agriculture, media, education, and will vote for each other through three rounds to select the winners.
The EC Secretary-General said the results of the first round were scheduled to be announced at 5pm on June 9 (local time). Those who pass this first round will continue to vote in group at the provincial level, scheduled for June 16, followed by the national level on June 26. The final election results will be announced on July 2.
The Thai Senate’s new term will comprise 200 members selected from 20 professional groups, with 10 seats available for each group./.
