Thailand, India conduct joint military exercise

The 13th India-Thailand joint military exercise MAITREE is taking place at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak province of Thailand from July 1 – 15.

New Delhi (VNA) – The 13th India-Thailand joint military exercise MAITREE is taking place at Fort Vachiraprakan in Tak province of Thailand from July 1 – 15.

The Indian Ministry of Defence said its army contingent, comprising 76 personnel, is being represented mainly by a Battalion of the Ladakh Scouts along with personnel from other arms and services.

The Royal Thailand Army contingent also comprises 76 personnel.

The exercise aims to foster military cooperation between Thailand and India, and enhance combined capabilities in executing Joint Counter Insurgency/ Terrorist Operations in Jungle and Urban Environment under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.

MAITREE enables the two sides to share their best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures for conduct of joint operations, while facilitating the development of inter-operability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between Thai and Indian soldiers.

ꦛ As an annual military exercise, MAITREE covers air and land forces, along with medical and medical support activities. The joint exercise is conducted on a practical level to improve necessary skills for confronting common threats. It is another step in the process of strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries./.
