Thailand, Japan to co-host Green Mekong Forum

Thailand and Japan will be co-hosting the third Green Mekong Forum on December 25 in Bangkok as part of the Mekong-Japan Cooperation.
Thailand and Japan will be co-hosting the third Green Mekong Forum onDecember 25 in Bangkok as part of the Mekong-Japan Cooperation.

Theforum aims to encourage cooperation in sustainable development and toraise the awareness of environmental issues among the member states,namely Thailand, Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

Director-General of the Department of International EconomicAffairs Chutintorn Kongsak, and Deputy Director-General of theSoutheast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department of Japan ShigekiTakizaki will co-chair the forum.

Urban environment improvementsand the mitigation and preparation for disasters will be the maintopics of this forum, where participants will discuss and exchange viewson environmental challenges in the Mekong region.

Thailandand Japan were selected to host the Green Mekong Forum during theGreater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit in November 2014.-VNA/NNT
