Bangkok (VNA)♌– Thailand and Myanmar have passed a project to develop a border road at the8th meeting of Thailand-Myanmar Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) for the comprehensivedevelopment of Dawei Special Economic Zone and related projects.
According to Thaimedia on July 4, the meeting was chaired by Thai Transport Minister AkomTermpitayapaisit and Myanmar Commerce Minister Than Myint on June 30. The twosides agreed on construction of a road connecting the economic zone in Myanmarto the border with Thailand. In the first stage, theThai Government offered a loan of 4.5 billion THB (over 132 million USD) tobuild a 138-kilometre road linking Thailand with Myanmar. The loan will bedisbursed in form of infrastructure investment. However, the Myanmar Governmentsaid it needs time to consider Thailand’s proposal. The two sides alsoagreed to establish two special committees to study the implementation ofrelated projects within three months. The research results will be presented atthe ninth JCC meeting in October.-VNA
