Thailand, Myanmar step up trans-boundary cooperation
Thailand and Myanmar have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on transnational issues, including drug smuggling, the repatriation of Myanmar refugees, and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU).

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand and Myanmar have agreed to strengthenbilateral cooperation on transnational issues, including drug smuggling, therepatriation of Myanmar refugees, and illegal, unreported and unregulatedfishing (IUU).
The issues were discussed at the 7th Thai - Myanmar High LevelCommittee (HLC) meeting, which was held in Bangkok on September 3. Establishedin 2010, the HLC meets once a year, which Thailand and Myanmar take turns tohost the annual event.
This year’s meeting was co-chaired by Thai Supreme Commander General PornpipatBenyasri and Commander-in-chief of Myanmar’s Armed Forces Min Aung Hlaing.
Earlier, Min Aung Hlaing had a meeting with Thai Prime Minister and DefenceMinister Prayut Chan-o-cha, during which they reached consensus on enhancingbilateral cooperation in transboundary issues, and working together to improvelivelihoods in border area.
They also agreed to expand cooperation in other areas such as education andmilitary training.
The Myanmar Army Chief affirmed Myanmar will be a goodneighbour of Thailand, and the country will tighten all-round collaborationwith the Thai military.-VNA
