Bangkok (VNA) –✨ Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and visiting Myanmar State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi reached consensus on workers’ rights and trade cooperation during their meeting on June 24.

As heard at a press conference after the meeting, the two discussed the issue of Myanmar migrant labourers working in Thailand and measures to help 100,000 Myanmar refugees return home.
As a result, Thailand and Myanmar signed a memorandum of understanding on labour cooperation and agreements on border crossing and employment of migrant workers. The host and guest also exchanged their views on peace progress in Myanmar as well as bilateral trade prospects at Myanmar’s Dawei special economic zone. Highlighting the important role of ASEAN, they agreed to work together in building the ASEAN Community of peace and security that truly benefits its citizens.
Earlier the same day, Aung San Suu Kyi delivered a keynote speech entitled "Myanmar, ASEAN and the World: The Way Forward" at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Observers said Aung San Suu Kyi’s visit to Thailand is a symbolic trip which shows Myanmar’s new foreign policy prioritising cooperation with other ASEAN member states. Thailand is now the second biggest trade partner of Myanmar after China, with two-way trade reaching 8.1 billion USD in 2015.-VNA
