Thailand: Preparations for Royal Coronation completed

- Preparations for public participation in thecoronation ceremonies of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn – Rama X, slatedfor May 4-6, have been completed.

Accordingto Bangkok Post, the City Hall is bracing for an influx of more than150,000 people, expected to flock to Sanam Luang for the King's coronationceremonies this weekend. 

Visitors are expected to pack the grounds andsurrounding roads near the Grand Palace to pay their respects to the King, whowill perform the liap phranakhon ritual on May 5, during which he will make ashort trip to several parts of the capital, City Hall officials said. 

About 200 medical teams will be on standby totake care of attendees every 100 metres along the route.

Security will be beefed up and first aidservices, drinking water, food as well as portable toilets will be provided.

Teachers and students of Kasem Bundit and Bangkokthorburi universities havealso been mobilsed as interpreters of English and Chinese for foreigners at theceremonies.

The procession route for the King’s coronationceremonies covers a distance of 7.2 kilometres in Bangkok Old City.

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn became KingRama X in December 2016, after his farther King Bhumibol Adulyadej – Rama IX –passed away in October the same year, at 88.-VNA
