Bangkok (VNA) - Thailand will tackle its declining birth rate byputting fertility on the national agenda in the context the country’s fertility rate is seeing a decline, placing the kingdom to face a “super-aged” society.

♔ Minister of Health Cholnan Srikaew acknowledged that the lowbirth rate will take time to solve and it will be proposed that the premierlist it as a national agenda item. However, the government will promptly solvethe problem as it will have a widespread impact on the economy, society andhealth in the country.

Accordingto experts, if the current trend of low birth rate continues, Thailand's population will decline to about 33million people in the next six decades, including about 18 million elderlypeople, 14 million working-age adults, and only a million people aged 0-14. The minister emphasised that besides focusing on increasing thenation's birth rate, the government will also focus on the quality of humandevelopment and human resources. The government’s plans which aim to boost the fertilityrate and further invest in human resource development are being considered.Once approved, the plans will be formally released as part of the nationalagenda./.
