Thailand promotes five economic goals in 13th 5-year plan

Bangkok (VNA) - Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-chaannounced for the first time the details of the draft 13th five-year National Economicand Social Development Plan for the period 2023-2027, which setsout five goals to transform the country.

Speaking on this issue while chairing a webinar themed "Mission to Transform" organised by the National Economic and Social DevelopmentCouncil (NESDC) on September 22, PM Prayut said that thegovernment will develop the country with five goals.

He said firstly, Thailand needs to restructure theproduction of its goods in connection with the digital economy. It mustattach importance to research and development.

Secondly, the country needs to develop human resources to keep upwith rapid digital changes.

Thirdly, the plan has attached importance to giving equal opportunities and fairness to people.

Fourthly, the country needs to focus more on environmentalconservation and ways of handling the effects of global climate change in acomprehensive and sustainable manner.

Lastly, Thailand needs to prepare itself for any globalchallenges and issues such as connectivity to neighbouring countries, and thedevelopment of economic corridors in each region of the world as developmentproceeds apace.

The webinar saw the participation of representatives from state agencies, political sector, private sector and civil organisations to gather feedback on the draft plan.

♏ NESDC Secretary-General Danucha Pichayanan said the implementation ofthe 12th national economic and social development plan between 2017 to 2022 is likely to miss its target as the country still faced problems related tothe spread of COVID-19./.
