Bangkok, June 6 (VNA) - Thai government is workingwith vaccine providers to buy 25 million doses of Pfizer and J&J vaccinesto reach 100 million vaccine doses by the end of 2021, according to an official.
Thailand has officially purchased61 million COVID-19 vaccine doses by AstraZeneca and 6 million doses of Sinovac(China). Head of Thailand’s Disease Control Department Opas Karnkawinpong saidthe country will have to purchase additional 50 million doses in 2022 for the boosterinjections, especially if many new variants emerge.
Thailand government willofficially roll out its mass vaccination programme on June 7 and by the end ofDecember this year, 50 million people will be vaccinated. Karnkawinpong saidthe department will provide the vaccine on a weekly basis to the localities whichneed them the most until the sources become more reliable.
On June 4, AstraZenecapharmaceutical group delivered the first batch of 1.8 million doses to the Government of Thailand. In addition, 1.5 million dosesof Sinovac vaccine will be delivered when the mass vaccination campaign beginsnext week.
