Thailand readies for ASEAN Summit

Host Thailand has been all set for the 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits on November 2-4, Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents in Bangkok reported.

Bangkok (VNA) – Host Thailand has been all set for the 35th ASEAN Summit and related summits on November 2-4, Vietnam News Agency’scorrespondents in Bangkok reported.

The 35th ASEAN Summit will attract over 3,000 delegates, includingleaders and representatives of 23 countries and five internationalorganisations. The event will be broadcast to 3 billion people worldwide.

In the past months, Thailand has made meticulous preparation for the importantevent, with top priority given to security work.

The Government has deployed 17,000 police and military officers who are readyto provide security at meeting venues, hotels and nearby routes.

Earlier, a major security drill featuring simulated responses to high-levelsecurity threats and operations to rescue and evacuate summit attendees wasorganised at Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi, where world leaders will gatherfor the summit.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, presiding over the drill in his role asnational security chief, said he was confident the country was ready to respondto any unexpected incidents during the summits.

According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 35th ASEANSummit and related events will focus on cooperation for sustainable stability, border management,cyber-security, trans-national crime combat, disaster mitigation, sustainabledevelopment, economic acceleration, the Fourth Industrial Revolution, amongothers./.
