Thailand: Rescued football team gets ready to exit hospital

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that all members of the Moo Pa Academy youth football team are now in good health after being safely removed from Tham Luang Cave and admitted to Chiang Rai Prachanukroh hospital for care and observation.

The Ministry of Public Health has reported that allmembers of the Moo Pa Academy youth football team are now in good health afterbeing safely removed from Tham Luang Cave and admitted to Chiang Rai Prachanukrohhospital for care and observation.

They are nowconsidered ready to return to their homes on July 19 when members ofthe media will be asked to avoid asking them questions that may causetrauma. 

Minister of Public Health Dr Piyasakol Sakolsathayadhorn said that relativesare now allowed to see and meet with the 12 boys and one adult of the Moo PaAcademy youth football team but are required to wear face masks and tothoroughly wash their hands before and after contact. The entire team isscheduled to be released from hospital on July 19. 

While all the team members have shown good mental well-being, members of themedia have been asked to avoid any lines of questioning that may be stressfulif they interview the boys. 

Ministry of Public Health Inspector Dr Thongchai Lerswilairattanapong added thateach of the team members has gained two to three kilograms in weight,indicating improving physical health. They are now engaging in sessions toprepare them emotionally for reintegration into society. 

Mae Sai Hospital and the local health promotion facility have joined inpreparing post-hospital care for the young football team and will be workingwith its members’ families and teachers to ensure their transition back intonormal daily life is smooth.

A guidebook onhealthcare has been distributed to all involved and guardians have been told toinitially monitor the weight of each of the team members. Their school performanceis to also be tracked.-NNT/VNA
