Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has set up peace centres across the country to ensure a smooth and fair referendum which is scheduled for August this year.

Thai Government’s spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkhamnerd said the centres have been established since July 1 in all districts and provinces. They are responsible for designing back up plans for emergencies, following up situations, and setting up security checkpoints.

The centres will collect information on activities which may cause unrest or distort the draft constitution’s content, activities that violate the referendum law as well as the ban on public gathering which has been applied since the 2014’s coup.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, who is also Chairman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), announced on July 3 that the government will respect the referendum’s result.

♓ He also clearly expressed the government’s determination in reforming the country in all economic, political, and social spheres, in order to prevent the recurrence of instability and crisis.-VNA
