The Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has joined the Destruction of Confiscated Ivory in Thailand from cases that have been concluded, with witnesses from the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) member states, related agencies, and the general public at the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.
He said that the Thai government intends to solemnly eliminate illegal ivory trade by legislating laws that prohibits this kind of activity in Thailand. Thailand's resolve in the conservation of elephants and wildlife will be driven forward from the government's attempt to cease the transportation illegal goods, where Thailand has been location where illegal transport are transited to their destination. He has said that Thailand is set to be the center of ASEAN in the elimination of African elephant ivory trade in the region. The Prime Minister has also given out 540.67 kilograms of ivories to five agencies, solely for the purposes of education, science, art, and culture.-VNA
