Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand will continue monitoringCOVID-19 situation in eight cities and provinces, including Bangkok.

Deputy chief of the HealthMinistry’s Department of Disease Control Sophon Iamsirithaworn saidsurveillance will be carried out in high-risk groups. Theministry has identified provinces where an outbreak is possible - allare tourist destinations or are dense with migrant workers.

These eight provinces will serve as lookouts for the firstsigns of a possible outbreak. The ministry will also keep an eye on thevariants. The information will be updated on a weekly basis because thesituation is stable, he said.

Meanwhile, Yong Poovorawan, chief of the Chulalongkorn University's Centre ofExcellence in Clinical Virology, said COVID-19 is now a common seasonalrespiratory illness.
