Thailand to use new banknotes with portrait of King Rama X

Hanoi (VNA) – Thailand will use new banknotes featuring aportrait of newly-succeeding King Maha Vajiralongkorn, also known as Rama X, onthe front of the bills from April.

The new banknotes will be released under the permission of King MahaVajiralongkorn, said Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT) VeerathaiSantiprabhob.

The new 20-baht, 50-baht and 100-baht banknotes will be issued onApril 6, followed by the 500-baht and 1000-baht bills on July 28.

Theportraits of King Rama I and King Rama II are on the back of the 20-bahtbanknote, those of King Rama III and King Rama IV on the back of the 50-bahtbanknote, those of King Rama V and King Rama VI on the 100-baht banknote, thoseof King Rama VII and King Rama VIII on the 500-baht bill and those of King RamaIX and King Rama X on the 1,000-baht bill.

All existing banknotes will remain valid andexchangeable as usual, according to the BOT Governor.-VNA
