Thailand works out four strategies to promote exports

Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce has come up withfour strategies to boost exports in 2020, including plans to expand existingmajor markets such as ASEAN, the European Union, the US, Japan, and China.
 
Somdej Susomboon, ActingDirector-General of the Commerce Ministry's Department of International TradePromotion, said the second strategy is to seek new markets such as South Asia,Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. 

The third strategy will focus on reviving old markets, including the export ofrice to Iraq and establishing a stronger market for Thai products in Bahrain.

The fourth strategy aimsto boost cross-border trade as well as e-commerce. 

The ministry alsoplans to organize more than 50 export-related events from now until December.

It will also promotethe use of Thai rice in Japan’s processing industry as well as promoting Riceberryin the EU and Russia.

Thailand also intends to hold trade fairs to introduce its products within theAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In the first eight months of 2019, Thailand’s export turnover reached 166 billion,down 2.2 percent year-on-year, while the country’s imports stood at 160 billionUSD, a yearly decrease of 3.6 percent./.
