Thais urged to turn off lights for Earth Hour 2025
This year, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has requested cooperation from many city landmarks by switching off their lights for the hour, including the Emerald Buddha Temple, the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn, the Giant Swing, Rama VIII Bridge and the Temple of the Golden Mount in Bangkok.
Bangkok (VNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has called on everyone in Bangkok to join Earth Hour 2025, by turning off their lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on March 22.
This year, the BMA has requested cooperation from many city landmarks by switching off their lights for the hour, including the Emerald Buddha Temple, the Grand Palace, the Temple of Dawn, the Giant Swing, Rama VIII Bridge and the Temple of the Golden Mount in Bangkok.
Bangkok’s 50 district offices have also asked businesses in their jurisdictions to take part.
The objectives of the campaign include raising public awareness about climate change.
During last year’s Earth Hour, the world contributed more than 1.4 million hours of saved electricity. The first Earth Hour took place in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, with more than 2.2 million people turning off their lights for an hour.
People in around 7,000 cities across 190 countries worldwide are expected to participate in this year's Earth Hour./.
This year’s event transformed into a community festival, fostering sustainable living practices and raising awareness of the importance of energy transition.
