The Red Journey attracts over 1,000 donors in Ba Ria-Vung Tau
The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau received nearly 1,000 units of blood from 1,200 donors on July 11-12 during an activity under The Red Journey.

The Red Journey 2016 blood donation campaign was officially kicked off at a ceremony held in Hanoi on July 11by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT).
The organisation expects to collect 50,000 units of donated blood during the month-long campaign, including 20,000 units in 27 provinces and cities, which will be visited by the volunteer group.
The Red Journey is an important milestone in the development of the country’s voluntarily blood donation movement, contributing to reaching the goal that all of its blood will be donated by voluntary donors by 2020, said NIHBT Director Nguyen Anh Tri.
Since the first Red Journey in 2013, thousands of patients’ lives have been saved due to the nearly 57,000 blood units collected during the past three years, said the director.
Last year, the health sector collected more than 1.1 million units of blood.
The sector has set a target to collect 1.2 million units of blood from voluntary donors in 2016.-VNA
A blood donation festival was held in Hanoi on July 25 as part of the “Hanh trinh do” (Red Journey) campaign, with a hope of collecting 2,000 units of blood.
The central city of Da Nang received more than 1,200 units of blood (250ml each) from donors on July 18-19 during The Red Journey, a transnational campaign to raise awareness about donating blood.
A blood donation event took place in Phu Quoc district’s Duong Dong town in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang on July 6, marking the beginning of the 2016 Red Journey campaign in the South.
Volunteers participating in the Red Journey, an annual blood donation campaign, started their northern leg in Hanoi on July 10 which will travel through 12 northern cities and provinces.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
