Quang Ninh (VNA) – Three Chinese sailors were res๊cued after their cargo vessel ran aground near Ha Maꦺi island, Ngoc Vung commune, Van Don district, the northern province of Quang Ninh, the local border guard station said on January 16.

After finding a stranded cargo ship on a rocky beach southeast of Ha Mai island on January 11, the border guards launched a rescue mission, reaching the distressed vessel the following day. HUA XIN 168, measuring 52.2 metres in length and 7.2 metres in width, had departed from China’s Fangcheng port for Hai Phong city of Vietnam. Around 13 hours into their journey, the vessel's main engine malfunctioned. Strong winds and high waves subsequently pushed the ship onto the rocky area, damaging its propeller, and causing a water breach near the stern.
The three Chinese nationals are now in stable health condition.
They requested assistance from the Vietnamese authorities to facilitate repairs through a local maritime service agency. Repairs are expected to continue until January 17. The Ngoc Vung Border Guard Station deployed a team of five officers and soldiers to provide ongoing support, including food, water, and medical assistance, for the ship's sailors throughout the repair process./.
