Three int’l submarine internet cables out of order
Three international submarine cables, the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), the Intra Asia (IA) and the Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe (SMW3), have broken down, affecting Vietnam’s external internet connection.

Hanoi (VNA) – Three international submarinecables, the Asia-America Gateway (AAG), the Intra Asia (IA) and the SoutheastAsia-Middle East-Western Europe (SMW3), have broken down, affecting Vietnam’sexternal internet connection.
The Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group(VNPT) said telecom service providers are investigating the cause of theproblem.
Some experts attributed the incident to a recentstorm that swept through the area surrounding China’s Hong Kong.
Aside from cables crossing the northern border,Vietnam’s external internet connection depends on four submarine cables, namelyIA, AAG, SMW3 and the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG).
IA and AAG, two major internet gateways forVietnam, are linked with southern Vung Tau city, while SMW3 and APG areconnected with central Da Nang city.
The 20,000km AAG cable has designed capacity of2 terabits per second, linking Southeast Asia with the US.
Meanwhile, the 6,800km IA cable connectsSingapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan.-VNA
The Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) submarine cable was broken at 16:00pm on June 20, affecting Internet connection in Vietnam, especially for users in central localities.
Vietnam’s international connectivity will be improved once the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT)’s internet service via the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) is offered in July.
