Three VNA photojournalists honoured with prestigious awards

President Tran Dai Quang has presented Ho Chi Minh Awards and State Awards for Literature and Art to outstanding works from three photojournalists of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), along with more than 50 other authors and artists.

Hanoi (VNA) - President Tran Dai Quang has decided to present Ho Chi Minh Awards andState Awards for Literature and Art to outstanding works from threephotojournalists of the VietnamNews Agency (VNA), along with more than 50 other authors and artists.

Thethree journalists from VNA havebeen honoured for their photos taken during the American war.

Latejournalist Luong Nghia Dung (1935-1972), who worked as a war reporter of VNA during the American war, wasgiven the Ho Chi Minh Award for his collection of five photos, entitled NhungKhoanh Khac De Lai (The Left Moments). The five photos featureVietnamese soldiers during war. He died on Quang Tri battlefield in 1972.

LamTan Tai (1935-2001) was honoured with the State award for photos taken from histwo photobooks about the war. The first one is entitled Duong HoChi Minh (Ho Chi Minh Trail) also known as Truong Son Rail. Thisfeatured the logistical system that ran from North Vietnam to South Vietnamthrough neighbouring Laos and Cambodia. The system provided support, in theform of manpower and materials to the National Front of the Liberation of SouthVietnam and the People’s Army of Vietnam, or North Vietnamese Army.

HuaThanh Kiem was given the State award for his photo collection entitled Duong20 - Quyet Thang (Road 20 - Quyet Thang). This road, connecting EastTruong Son Road to West Truong Son Road, was nicknamed the “fire” road as itwas regularly bombed by the US.

Heldfor the first time in 1996, the Ho Chi Minh Awards and the State Awards forLiterature and Art are presented to writers and artists who have made importantcontributions to the country’s cultural development.

TheHo Chi Minh Award is the most prestigious award of Vietnam for art.

Anawards ceremony will be held at Hanoi’s Opera House on May 19, marking the137th birthday anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh.-VNA
