Thua Thien-Hue: Hundreds of students volunteer to fight COVID-19
Hundreds of students from the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue have volunteered to join the nation’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – Hundreds ofstudents from the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in the central provinceof Thua Thien-Hue have volunteered to join the nation’s efforts in the fightagainst COVID-19.
At the Hue railway station – one of the medicalcheckpoints, a group of students from the university are working around theclock with local health officers, police and military forces.
Whenever there is a departure or arrival,regardless of day or night, the task force is there to classify the flow ofpassengers, take their temperatures, and show them how to fill out healthdeclaration forms and implement preventive measures like washing hands. Thereare three groups of students on duty every day. Each group has five students.
Hoang Tran Sao Mai said that after receiving theuniversity’s notification, many students had volunteered to take part in theanti-coronavirus campaign at Thua Thien-Hue’s checkpoints.
“We are still young, so we want to contributeour efforts to the nation’s COVID-19 prevention. This is also an opportunityfor us to apply what we’ve learned at school.”
Rector of the university Vu Quoc Huy said closeto 340 students from the unviersity have registered for the project.
“We have selected about 160 students who arefluent in a foreign language to support foreigners. This is a good chance forstudents to show their bravery and responsibility for the community.”
At present, four COVID-19 patients are beingtreated at the Hue Central Hospital. The province is quarantining 775 suspectedcases.
The Ministry of Healthon late March 22 confirmed seven new COVID-19 infection cases, raising the totalnumber in Vietnam to 113. March 22 also witnessed the biggest increase in thenumber of infections in a single day with 19 new cases./.
The Thua Thien-Hue Department of Education and Training is coordinating with the provincial Radio and Television Station to offer televised lessons for Grade 12 and Grade 9 students from March 16 and March 23, respectively.
The central province of Thua Thien - Hue aims to attract 8-10 domestic and foreign investment projects with total registered capital of 6-8 trillion VND (257.4 -343 million USD) to its economic zones (EZs) and industrial zones (IZs) in 2020.
Medical staff at many hospitals around the country have been creative in fabricating automatic devices as they take care of an increasing number of COVID-19 patients.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
