Thua Thien-Hue spends 1.5 million USD to support fishermen
The People’s Committee of central Thua Thien-Hue province has decided to allocate over 35.8 billion VND (1.5 million USD) to assist local fishermen in offshore fishing.
Thua Thien-Hue (VNA) – ThePeople’s Committee of central Thua Thien-Hue province has decided to allocate over35.8 billion VND (1.5 million USD) to assist local fishermen in offshorefishing.
Accordingly, Phu Vang, Phu Loc districts, Hue city and Huong Tra township will receive25.97 billion VND, 9.75 billion VND, 425 million VND, and 350 million VND, respectively,to encourage and support aquaculture and offshore fishing.
This is the second time the province hasdisbursed to assist local fishermen in line with the Government’s Decree 67/2014/ND-CP on policies for fisherydevelopment (Decree 67).
The provincial authorities have requested localities to manage and use the moneyfor the right purposes and contents prescribed in the inter-ministerial CircularNo. 16/2012/ TTLT-BNN-BQP-BTC dated on April 11, 2012 by the Ministries ofAgriculture and Rural Development, Finance and National Defence.
Previously, the province spent more than16 billion VND to encourage aquaculture and offshore fishing activities, and exploitationservices in the above-mentioned localities.
In the first phase, Phu Vang and Phu Locdistricts received 10.9 billion VND and 4.76 billion VND respectively, whileHue city and Huong Tra township was provided with 500 million VND each to help local fishermen buy fuel forfishing trips.
Implementing Decree 67, ThuaThien-Hue province has actively coordinated with local authorities of coastalcommunes to support local fishermenin accessing preferential credit, thus building and upgrading 40 vessels,including four steel-hull ships with capacity of 829CV upwards and 36 wood-hullships with capacity of 400 to 800 CV.
Phu Vang district has the largest number of newly-built fishing boats, bringingits total number of offshore fishing ships to 170.
La Phuc Thanh, Chairman of the district’s People's Committee, said that theimplementation of the decree help expand offshore fishing areas in traditionalfishing grounds, thus increasing the district’s catch output.
The province now has 40 ships builtunder Decree 67. Local fishermen are enabled to borrow capital to build bigships for offshore fishing.-VNA.
Implementing the Government’s Decree No 67/2014/ND-CP on offshore fishing development, Kien Giang has built and upgraded 59 fishing and logistic ships at total cost of 577 billion VND.
158 teams of 1,040 fishing vessels and 8,000 labourers have been formed in the central coastal province of Quang Ngai. The teams have improved local livelihoods.
The model “Coast guards support fishermen” has helped the Vietnam Coastal Guard and other forces effectively perform patrols and inspections of the law enforcement at sea, heard a press conference in Hanoi on July 3.
The central province of Thua Thien-Hue has decided to provide 3.5 billion VND (150,000 USD) to assist insurance premiums for owners of offshore fishing vessels following the Government’s Decree No.67 on several fishery development policies.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong urged all cities and provinces in the south-central coastal region from Quang Nam to implement the Law on Fisheries.
