Tien Giang invests big to ensure clean water for coastal districts

The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang has earmarked over 175.8 billion VND (7.54 million USD) to build clean water supply works in the coastal area in the dry season 2020.

Tien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Deltaprovince of Tien Giang has earmarked over 175.8 billion VND (7.54 million USD) tobuild clean water supply works in the coastal area in the dryseason 2020.

The benefited districts are Go Cong Dong, GoCong Tay, Tan Phu Dong and Cho Gao districts and Go Cong town. 

The investment will be used to complete the water pipeline system from the Dong Tam Water Stationin My Tho city to residential areas suffering clean water shortage.

The province also aims to upgrade the existing waterpipeline system in Tan Phu Dong district, which suffers up to six months of saline intrusion each year. The move helps bring clean water from the Dong TamWater Station to district’s public water supply points. Besides, 56 new water pipelines, with atotal length of 52,000 metres, will be built for residential areas facing water shortage.

Since the early dry season of this year, hundreds of water taps have beeninstalled to serve for free residents living far from clean concentrated watersupply sources and in coastal areas which are seriously impacted by saline intrusion anddroughts. Clean water tanks have also been placed in several public places tohelp locals during the dry period.   

Earlier, dams have been built on Nguyen TanThanh Canal to prevent saltwater and ensure fresh water supply for theDong Tam Water Supply Station to treat and serve 800,000 people in My Tho city and coastal districts./.

Vietnam꧙ ramps up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
