Hanoi (VNA) – TheSecretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee met inHanoi on January 31 under the chair of Party General Secretary and PresidentNguyen Phu Trong to review the performance of the its directive on theorganisation of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
The Secretariat lauded sectors andagencies for their serious observance of the Secretariat’s Directive 40 and thePrime Minister’s Directive 33 to improve the people’s spiritual and material livesduring the festival.
Due attention was paid to social policybeneficiaries, national contributors, the elderly, the poor and labourers inlocalities, it said.
Through organisations and agencies, thePresident presented Tet gifts to more than 1.7 million people across thecountry. Meanwhile, cities and provinces mobilised more than 1.6 billion VND(69,000 USD) to support over 2.3 million social policy beneficiaries and poorhouseholds during the festival.
The Secretariat also commended effortsin ensuring traffic safety, especially administrative fines imposed on violationsof traffic rules, and maintaining political security, border, sea and islandsovereignty, social order and safety and firefighting,
Officials and Party members have setexamples in thrift practice and anti-corruption.
Regarding tasks in the time ahead, theSecretariat asked all-level Party committees to focus on fighting the acuterespiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV), considering this acentral, urgent task for both short and long terms.
Speaking at the meeting, Party GeneralSecretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong said right after the Tet holiday,sectors and agencies need to resume production and business, and complete theirassigned political tasks.
He emphasised the need to furtherprepare and organise all-level Party congresses, towards the 13th National Party Congress, well perform foreign affairs, especially Vietnam’s roleand responsibility as a non-permanent member of the United Nations SecurityCouncil and ASEAN Chair, firmly protect sovereignty, border and territorialintegrity, and ensure political security and social order and safety.
The leader also asked all-level Partycommittees to organise practical activities to celebrate the 90th founding anniversary of the CPV (February 3), and the country’s majorfestivals.
After scrutinising proposals of the CPVCentral Committee’s Commission Organisation, the Secretariat made somepersonnel decisions./.
