Traffic accidents claim 6,700 lives this year

A total of 14,510 traffic accidents happened across Vietnam this year to December 23, killing 6,700 people and injuring 10,804 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee has revealed.

Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 14,510 traffic accidents happened acrossVietnam this year to December 23, killing 6,700 people and injuring 10,804others, the National Traffic Safety Committee has revealed.

The figures represented year-on-year decreases of 17.6percent in the number of cases, 12.12 percent in the number of fatalities and20.7 percent in the number of injuries.

In the year, 8,177 road accidents killed 6,575 people andinjured 4,354 others. Meanwhile, 91 railway accidents left 71 dead and 23injured. Sixty-two accidents on waterways claimed the lives of 44 people andinjured seven, while 10 people were killed in 14 maritime accidents.

In December alone, 1,525 traffic accidents claimed 652 livesand injured 1,152 others, down 13.45 percent, 0.61 percent and 22.27 percentyear-on-year, respectively./.
