Compared to a day earlier, those figures fell by 15, 9 and13, respectively, the office said about the peak time of traffic accidents,during which people from all corners of the country often rush home for familyreunion in the longest and most important festival in Vietnam.
It is also reported that the force and local authoritiesdealt with 2,300 cases of violation, collected fines totaling over 1.13 billionVND (nearly 49,000 USD), detained 26 automobiles and 432 motorcyles.-VNA
Up to 147 accidents occurred during the four-day New Year holidays (December 29-January 1), claiming 110 lives and wounding 61 people, reported the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, who is Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, on January 4 proposed severe punishments for traffic safety violations.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The has issued a plan on improving traffic safety for 2019, which details measures to raise public awareness and compliance with traffic rules, among others.
