Traffic accidents kill 96 in five days of Lunar New Year holiday
As many as 96 people were killed while 110 others were injured in 144 traffic accidents over the first five days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, which began on February 2, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The numbers represented decreases of 28.7 percent in cases, 38 percent in deathsand 26 percent in injures.
Up to 27 cases were reported on February 6 or the second day of the first lunarmonth, leaving 19 people dead and 23 others injured.
The traffic police force in localities have dealt with over 2,000 cases ofviolation, collected fines totaling 990 million VND (42,570 USD) and detained415 vehicles.-VNA
Up to 147 accidents occurred during the four-day New Year holidays (December 29-January 1), claiming 110 lives and wounding 61 people, reported the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, who is Chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, on January 4 proposed severe punishments for traffic safety violations.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The has issued a plan on improving traffic safety for 2019, which details measures to raise public awareness and compliance with traffic rules, among others.
