Two Koreas agree to extend preliminary military talks

The Republic of Korea (RoK) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Feb. 8 planned to meet on Feb. 9 for another round of military talks after their preliminary talks ended without much progress.

According to Xinhua, the nine-hour meeting inthe truce village of Panmunjom, which aimed to decide on the venue, dateand agenda of the high-level military talks between the two Koreas,bogged down as Seoul officials insisted the high-level talks mustdiscuss the DPRK’s alleged sinking of RoK warship Cheonan and theshelling of Yeonpyeong island.

Following Pyongyang proposal,the two sides planned to conduct colonel-level talks in the trucevillage of Panmunjom on Feb. 9.

The Feb. 8 meeting is thefirst inter-Korean talks after the RoK’s artillery shelling inYeonpyeong island on November, 23, 2010./.
