US-DPRK Summit 2019: China, RoK hope for positive progress

Leaders of China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have voiced their hopes for positive progress resulting in from the upcoming DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of Chinaand the Republic of Korea (RoK) have voiced their hopes for positive progress resultingin from the upcoming DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam.

In a statement issued one day ahead of thesummit, which will take place in Hanoi on February 27-28, Chinese Minister ofForeign Affairs Wang Yi noted that in 2019, the world will see new hopes andchallenges. Especially, this week, the upcoming summit has earned attention ofinternational community.

He expressed his hope that the upcomingsummit could create new advances towards the denuclearisation and establishmentof sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The same day, spokesperson of the RoK presidentialoffice Kim Eui-kyeom voiced expectations for progress which could be reachedduring the summit.

The two leaders could meet face-to-face atleast five times during the two days of the summit, which may bring aboutremarkable progress, the RoK official added. He reiterated the possibility thata statement which declares the end of the Korean War (1950-1953) would beissued at the event.

DPRK leader Kim Jong-un arrived in Hanoi onFebruary 26 morning, while US President Donald Trump is expected to arrive inthe evening of the same day. An announcement of the US’ White House said theleaders will have their first face-to-face meeting during dinner on February27.-VNA
