US firms interested in doing business in Vietnam

Hanoi (VNA) – Senior executives of 29 US businesses expressed their desireto do long-term business in Vietnam during a meeting with Prime Minister NguyenXuan Phuc in Hanoi on March 9.

Thedelegation, led by Senior Vice President of the US-ASEAN Business Council(UABC) Michael Michalak, viewed Vietnam as an attractive business destinationand expressed their support for trade liberalisation, including the RegionalComprehensive Economic Partnership and other deals.

They saidthey were interested in investing in thermo and wind power, animal feedmanufacturing and distribution, chemicals, agriculture insurance,micro-finance, information technology, movies and start-ups in Vietnam.

The gueststhanked the Vietnamese government and agencies for facilitating their expansionin the country and committed to abiding by law in Vietnam and taking socialresponsibility via community-based activities.

Though the Trans-PacificPartnership has stalled, the US investors firmly believed that both sides couldwork together effectively.

The PM, forhis part, congratulated the US firms on their success in Vietnam over the yearsand lauded their support to the country.  

He saidthat Vietnam considers the US enterprises’ success as its own and pledged to listento their feedback to improve the business climate.

Vietnamwill maintain macro-economic stability, build a transparent and open legalenvironment and strive to be among top four ASEAN members in terms of businessenvironment, he stated.

Appreciatingtheir interest in diverse areas in Vietnam, including agriculture and equitisation,the leader said the government will work to keep pace with science-technologyadvances and pledged to realise signed free trade agreements while buildingregulations in fields of the firms’ interest.

TheVietnamese government wants to push forward long-term friendship with the US onthe basis of respect for each other’s political regime, he said, adding thatthe Cabinet is willing to work with US President Donald Trump’s administrationto boost bilateral ties.

He askedthe UABC and US firms to serve as a bridge connecting their business partnersand Vietnam, urge the US government and Congress to enhance investment andtrade with Vietnam and the region, back the US administration’s recognition ofVietnam as a market economy and assist Vietnam in successfully hosting theAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2017.

The hostemphasised that APEC Year 2017 affords Vietnamese and US firms a chance toincrease connectivity.

Taking noteof the US investors’ proposals, the PM vowed to direct ministries and agenciesto consider them soon.-VNA
