US wants to strengthen defence ties with Vietnam: Ambassador

Hanoi (VNA) – US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J.Kritenbrink hasaffirmed that the US wants to strengthen defence cooperation with Vietnam,particularly in the settlement of post-war consequences to enhance mutual trustand understanding.
Ata meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen.Nguyen Chi Vinh in Hanoi on February 23, the Ambassador said security-defencecollaboration is a highlight in the US-Vietnam bilateral ties.
Deputy Minister Vinh expressed the wish that the US would continue workingwith Vietnam to complete the Environmental Remediation of Dioxin Contaminationproject at Da Nang International Airport.
He also urged for the early start of a similar project at Bien Hoa airport inthe southern province of Dong Nai.
Vinh said both nations should make efforts to realise agreements alreadyreached on key issues in bilateral defence ties, while seeking new cooperativefields.-VNA
