USAID continues helping Vietnam Red Cross manage disaster risks
The USAID will provide nearly 800,000 USD for the continuation of a project to raise the capacity of the Vietnam Red Cross and its chapters to manage disaster risks, conduct first aid, and care for people’s health in emergency situation.

Hanoi (VNA) – The US Agency for International Development (USAID)will provide nearly 800,000 USD for the continuation of a project to raise thecapacity of the Vietnam Red Cross and its chapters to manage disaster risks,conduct first aid, and care for people’s health in emergency situation.
The expanded phase, to be implemented from September 30,2017 to 2019, is expected to benefit 13,700 people directly and 30,000 othersindirectly in three provinces, which are Hoa Binh in the north, Quang Tri inthe central region and Bac Lieu in the south.
The project helps make plans to respond to and reduce disasterrisks, train teachers and students on water and sanitation-related issues, andhold training courses on first aid and disease prevention.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, US Ambassador to VietnamDaniel J.Kritenbrink spoke highly of the role of the Vietnam Red Cross inhumanitarian activities as well as the outcomes of the project’s first phase.
He expressed his hope that the second phase will continueapplying community-based approaches to help target communes have betterpreparations and strengthen resilience to natural disasters.
The first phase of the project was carried out from October2015 to July 2017 in six disaster-prone communes of Hoa Binh, Quang Tri and BacLieu provinces with an investment of 500,000 USD.-VNA
