VFF leader receives financial aid in support of flood victims
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan on December 27 received 500 million VND (21,700 USD) in support of flood victims in the south central region.
Hanoi (VNA) – President ofthe Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan on December 27received 500 million VND (21,700 USD) in support of flood victims in the southcentral region.
The sum was donated by the Foreign Ministry staffand handed over by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
Speaking at the event, Nhan said the financialpackage will be transferred to affected households within one week.
The VFF will continue appealing for donations athome and abroad to support the victims ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year, hesaid.
The same day, the national flag carrier VietnamAirlines committed 2.1 billion VND (91,000 USD), which is sourced from a socialactivity fund raised by its staff, to seven central and south central provinceshard hit by the flooding.
The donation was in response to the Party Committeeof the Centrally-run Businesses sector’s appeal on December 20.
Earlier in late October, Vietnam Airlines, budgetcarrier Jetstar Pacific and Vietnam Air Services Company carried over 35 tonnesof relief goods to the central region.
OnDecember 16-17, Vietnam Airlines also shipped 30 tonnes of dry food to theregion.
Up to 29 people were killed and went missing in the downpours and flood inOctober alone, and nearly 200,000 houses and infrastructure facilities wereunder water and damaged in Vietnam’scentral region. Losses are estimated at trillions of VND.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his four deputies on December 23 join in a campaign to raise funds for flood-hit people in the south-central region.
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on December 24 decided to allocate 2,000 tonnes of rice to the south central province of Binh Dinh, which has suffered heavy losses due to recent floods.
The Prime Minister has agreed to allocate 165 billion VND (over 7.2 million USD) from the budget reserves fund to eight provinces to help them tackle the consequences of storms and floods from October 13-18.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
