Vice President receives Thai chief judge

Increasing judicial cooperation between Vietnam and Thailand has contributed to strengthening and deepening the bilateral relations, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh told a Thai chief judge on February 22.

Hanoi (VNA) - Increasing judicial cooperation between Vietnam and Thailandhas contributed to strengthening and deepening the bilateral relations, VicePresident Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh told a Thai chief judge on February 22.

Thinh made the statement during a reception in Hanoi for Chief Judge of the SupremeCourt of Thailand Cheep Jullamon, who is leading a delegation to visit Vietnam.

She affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the cooperation and friendshipwith Thailand, which has showed fruitful development across fields over thelast four decades since the two side established bilateral diplomatic ties.

Thailand now remains the largest trade partner of Vietnam in ASEAN with thetwo-way trade hitting over 17 billion USD in 2018.The two sides are striving tolift this to 20 billion USD in 2020.

Thinh thanked Thailand for its support for Vietnam’s chairmanship of the Council of ASEAN Chief Justices (CACJ), saying that Vietnam backs the Supreme Court of Thailand to host the CACJ conference in 2019.

She expressed her belief that the cooperation between the two sides’ courts willbe more effective, especially in applying IT in court activities and improving thecompetence of judges.

Thinh hoped the Thai Supreme Court of Thailand will send experienced experts toVietnam to lecture at the Vietnam Court Academy, and share Thailand’s experiencein the field with Vietnamese court officials.

For his part, Cheep Jullamon said the visit aims to further enhance cooperationbetween the two countries’ judicial agencies and realise the memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) on collaboration between the two supreme courts.

He believed that the relations between the two sides’ courts will become stronger in the time to come.-VNA
